A local gem that transports me back to barmy childhood days

An historical, quiet English village, with a water basin, and canal

CAPTURED ON ANALOGUE-FILM [KODAK PORTA 400]

Hickling Pastures is a small village located in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire, England, dating back 2000 years pre the estimated birth of Jesus Christ, and just 15 minutes from my home. I discovered this gem 2 years ago, and each visit rekindles childhood memories of travelling to Norfolk with my family, and encountering sublime waterways such as this. I love its serenity and charm.

Today, the draw to get out of the house and into the sunshine was strong. Despite a significant drop in temperature to double-digits last week, I flung on my warm, walking apparel, jumped into my car to indulge myself once more.

Mandarin are among the most popular wildfowl in collections globally for both their ornamental appearance and their charm. They are native to East Asia, and can be seen in village streams and on temple ponds.

This little guy, like many have found a new home in the UK. Introduced to the wild after escaping from captivity in the early 20th century, mandarin ducks have thrived in Britain's woodlands and water bodies.

This solitary mandarin, despite small in size, commanded the waterway at Hickling Basin. He would rebuff other wildfowl away from him; quite a cheeky chappy!

A few phone snaps that I trust that you will enjoy.
